Alternatives to Google Plus

I think like "Google Wave", "Google Plus" had certain technical merits but was a pretty bad experience from a user perspective.

Where obscurity and complexity worked in its favour was keeping out the riff-raff!  More technically minded early adopters from Wave stayed by default and made the kernel of some good groupings on Machine Learning and Category Theory.

But everyone that wrote good stuff has a great blog as well and, like twitter, short-form Plus posts are mostly an advert for long form content.
